Camp Runamuk

Center Based Services
Get ready for The Foundation for Exceptional Kids’ annual Camp Runamuk! Join us this Fall in beautiful Oracle, Arizona for a fun family camp where kids with special needs join in all of the exciting activities!

What can you expect?

Mornings – After breakfast, campers and siblings break into individual groups for sessions of arts and crafts, music and movement, drama, and sports-related activities. Parents can participate in optional activities such as lectures, discussion groups, yoga, massages, or recreational games.

Afternoons – After lunch, a variety of optional family activities are offered, including hikes, scavenger hunts, sports, sensory activities, horseback riding, and climbing the rock wall/zip line.

Evenings – After dinner, sing songs, listen to stories & roast marshmallows at the campfire. After kids go to bed, enjoy late-night activities for adults only.

Campers With Special Needs

To get the most out of their experience, each camper with special needs is accompanied by a Camp Pal during various scheduled activities. There is an additional fee for each Camp Pal provided, though some families with state funded services may be able to use respite hours instead (24 hours for the weekend.)

Who are Camp Pals?

Camp Pals are trained providers that accompany any camper with special needs during their morning programs and during the evening campfire. In addition, your child’s Camp Pal will assist you 2 hours in the afternoon during family activities and again 2 hours at bedtime during parent/evening activities.

The Foundation for Exceptional Kids provides a Camp Pal for each camper with special needs. Ask about how your family can include your respite or habilitation provider by attending as your assigned Camp Pal and sharing in the camp experience. All camp staff including Camp Pals are volunteers.

About the experience

S.E.E.K. Support maximizes a child’s chances for success by utilizing a total team approach: parents, providers and clinicians implement these strategies for continuity of treatment and therapeutic efficacy. Parents are expected to participate in sessions, continue treatment when clinicians are not present, and provide feedback and support during meetings. Your child’s success depends on your participation!
